Psychotherapy and Ecotherapy in Edinburgh

It’s difficult to describe the therapeutic process without melting into cliché: The journey, the ups and downs, boats upon the ocean.

It’s not easy to describe a process that can be unique, challenging and profound.

As a lover of the outdoors, I often think of the counselling experience as a garden. It’s a safe, warm space full of colour, where we can seek out our hidden dark corners, our rough weedy patches that need some more care. We’ll spend time exploring and digging, examining what we find, and sometimes planting anew. I’ll challenge you sometimes, but I’ll let you set the pace.

My Approach

The key factor in therapeutic work is the relationship between therapist and client.

I meet each client genuinely, with warmth and without judgement. I work with understanding based on rigorous theory and training, combined with gentle curiosity and a shared sense of purpose. A space to explore, to remember, to renew.

I am an integrative psychotherapist (MSc University of Greenwich), which means that I work with a range of techniques but based around a core theoretical framework (drawing on psychodynamic, humanistic and CBT approaches). I am a registered member of the BACP.

Integrative training is designed to be flexible and I have experience of working with a range of issues, from anxiety and depression to trauma, grief, abuse and other mental health problems. I also work with environmental and climate change anxiety.

I enjoy working creatively, with images, stories and myths. And ecotherapy - working therapeutically outdoors with nature - is a passion of mine, but I also enjoy working in a more traditional room or online. Different spaces work for different people, so get in touch and we can discuss what might work for you.

Ecotherapy

Outdoor therapy work is a growing area, giving space to explore your own internal valleys, fields and oceans while the landscape shapes and guides our work together.

I’m experienced working outdoors with a range of clients and am fully trained and insured. I offer outdoor sessions in Edinburgh, with ‘back-up’ options when the Scottish weather is just too grim.

If you’re curious about this way of working, get in touch and I’ll be happy to think together about what might work for you.
